About

I’m lucky to have the love and support of a wonderful partner and friend, my wife, Ashley. She isn’t Christian but encourages my relationship with God and my Catholic faith. She isn’t mathy but listens when I explain calculus concepts. She serves as a constant reminder that family and relationships with others come first.

For the past two years we have resided in New York City but recently moved to the Hampton Roads area to be closer to family. We love visiting our nieces and nephews, hikes, and reading on the beach about two blocks from our house.

I am a curious person by nature and love learning new things. I hope to continue learning new skills as long as I live and breathe. Having a balanced lifestyle and questioning mind is crucial for research sustainability. The overarching goal of my research is to improve the lives of people who live in poverty. In addition to research and teaching, some things I enjoy include:

  • Residential Construction and Real Estate: flipped two houses while living in them – one from 2015-2017 and another from 2017-2019. Intermediate skill in framing, electrical, plumbing, drywall, tiling, and masonry.
  • Computer Programming: proficient in many languages including C++, Java, Latex, MATLAB, R, and Stata.
  • Piloting airplanes/helicopters
  • Pianist: intermediate skill
  • Sports: Scuba Diving, Snow Skiing, Ultimate Frisbee
  • Notre Dame and Cincinnati Bengals Football
